Proximity to the Aneboda field station has meant that information on Lake Gyslättasjön has been documented for the past half century. The first data orginated in the early 1930s (Lang 1931, Lönnerblad 1931a,b). Since then, Maimer (1961) and Andersson (1971) have documented the limnology of the lake. More recent studies have focused on the effects of acidification, liming and metals. Lake Gyslättasjön is included in two national projects: “Liming-mercury” (Andersson et al 1982, 1989, Degerman and Nyberg 1987, Borg et al 1989) and, since 1989, the ISEL (Intergrated Studies on the Effects of Liming) programme, with regular monitoring of the post-liming ecosystem (Andersson et al 1993, Appelberg and Aldén 1992, Ekström 1992, Hörnström 1992, Lingdell and Engblom 1992).
