Influence of Mechanically Activated Fillers of Different Chemical Nature on Tribotechnical Properties of PTFE-Composites

Abstract

The prospects of using mechanical activation for not only the matrix but also for fillers of different chemical nature (carbon and basalt fibers, kaolin, coke and graphite) to increase the tribotechnical characteristics of PCMs is shown. Optimal concentration of binary fillers, which ensures the creation of more homogenous structure of the PTFE-composite and high tribotechnical properties, amounts to 20%. The methods of electron microscopy shows that the determining factor of increase in a complex of functional properties of PCMs based on PTFE is forming spherolitic composite structure under the influence of active particles of disperse layered fillers, which play a role of germs of crystallization and formation on the surface of fibers and coke of the interfacial layer of PTFE, which contributes to the emergence of a stable spatial cluster of a filler in the volume of composition matrix and allows to reach the maximum reinforcing effect, thereby, raising strengthening characteristics of the material and its wear resistance.
