Abstract

In this paper, a copolymer has been prepared with bismaleimide resin (BMI) and phenolphthalein cyanate ester resin (PPCE) which formed bismaleimide-triazine (BT) copolymer. PPCE is synthesized in cyanogens halide-phenol method, with the microstructure examined by fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The BMI/PPCE copolymer exhibits excellent mechanical properties and stable thermal properties when the content of BMI is 30 wt.%. And the moisture absorption of the blends is found to be small higher than PPCE resin. The dielectric properties of BMI/PPCE copolymer, such as dielectric constant and dielectric dissipation factor, show good stability over a wide frequency range from 10 to 60 MHz. In addition, the BMI/PPCE copolymer has a better thermal stability compared with PPCE resin with the increasing of BMI content.
