Efficiency in manufacturing – especially mass production – is extremely important to the economic well-being of any industrial company. Among the main ways of improving efficiency are reducing the consumption of raw materials and shortening the unit production cycle – which includes the stages of preparing for production, the production process itself, monitoring of product quality, and shipment of the product to the customer-user. To reduce material consumption during the production process, it is best to attempt to optimize the form and dimensions of the semifinished product. This makes it possible to conserve materials by significantly decreasing the amount of waste generated, shortening the time required for subsequent finishing of the product, and lowering labor costs. …
