Azucena is an Milanese firm that started operations in 1947, producing works of design to cater for the needs of a group of (then young) designers: Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Corrado Corradi Dell’Acqua, Ignazio Gardella and Maria Teresa and Franca Tosi.

Isao Hosoe (Tokyo, 8 March 1942–Milan, 3 October 2015) was a Japanese engineer and designer who moved to Milan in 1967 to work with Gio Ponti and Alberto Rosselli, before opening his own prestigious professional practice.

The Design for All Quality Label was established in 2009 by the association Design for All Italia to certify the DfA characteristics of products, places and systems.

One example is the experimental residential unit known as the Casa Agevole, designed by the architect Fabrizio Vescovo and built in 2004 by the Santa Lucia Foundation, which created a full-scale model on its own premises in Rome.

This brings a little anecdote to mind. When one of the editions of the Triennale was inaugurated, Italy’s Prime Minister of the day, Giovanni Spadolini (a great man, but also quite a big one), ended up wedged into the armchair provided for the press conference. This caused quite a stir among his young staff, who had to change the armchairs in all the subsequent events.
