Polytec has introduced a new coating thickness measurement system from the French manufacturer Enovasense. It has been developed to measure the thickness of non-transparent and semi-transparent coatings and is based on the thermal measurement principle. The system is suitable for almost all types of coatings on all common substrates, including paints, galvanised coatings, metal coatings on plastic, metal, wood and glass. The very short measuring times of less than a second, the non-contact, non-destructive photothermal measurement process, the compact measuring head (75 × 32 × 41 mm) and the scalability of the system with the option of operating up to 10 measuring heads in parallel all allow the system to be easily integrated into production processes. The system can also be mounted on a robot arm without problems. Typical applications include measuring metal coatings on plastic substrates and galvanised coatings in the plastics and metal-working industries and measuring painted composite materials in the aviation industry. In the automotive industry the system can be used to measure the thickness of metallic cylinder coatings.
