This chapter describes how models may be used to investigate policy options for the sustainable management of tropical forests. Reasons for building models are discussed and their strengths and weaknesses described. Specific models that the authors have used are then presented, particular reference being made to the SARUM global model of economic development, trade and natural resource use.
