In this chapter we introduce some basic physical properties of nanomaterials compared with their bulk counterparts by using some particular nanostructured materials as model. The role of surface atoms and the quantum-induced effects in nanoscale materials are discussed. The notable electronic properties of nanosystems are also presented with emphasis given to the carbon nanotubes. We also evaluate the vibrational properties of nanomaterials and how these properties can be used for characterizing nanomaterials thus obtaining information about size, disorder, and morphology. The size-induced magnetic and ferroelectric properties of nanomaterials are also highlighted.
