BMW has unveiled the X3 xDrive30e. The electrified SUV combines a plug-in hybrid drive with the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system. The X3 xDrive30e will be released in spring 2020.

The BMW X3 xDrive30e is powered by a 135 kW (184 HP) 2.0 l four-cylinder Otto engine as well as an 80 kW (109 HP) electric motor that is integrated into the automatic transmission. The vehicle has a system output of 215 kW (292 HP). The plug-in hybrid drive has a maximum torque of 420 Nm. The PHEV SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h.

The electric motor can be used for purely electric driving for speeds up to 135 km/h or for supporting the combustion engine. The 12 kWh lithium-ion battery is stored beneath the rear bench and reduces the boot space to a volume of 450 l. Charging takes up to six hours at a household outlet and three and a half hours at a wallbox.

The BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system also splits the torque during purely electric driving between the front and rear wheels as required. An optional adaptive suspension, variable sport steering and M Sport brake system can be ordered to enhance the driving dynamics even further. The new BMW X3 xDrive30e will be produced from the end of 2019 at BMW's Spartanburg plant in the US.
