Borgwarner is supplying a European commercial vehicle manufacturer with an electric motor for a hybrid truck. The lightweight commercial vehicle with a plug-in hybrid drive will be released in 2019.
A European commercial vehicle manufacturer has chosen Borgwarner's High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) 410 electric motor for its plug-in hybrid electric truck. The electric motor has been designed for urban commercial vehicles, delivery trucks and waste handling vehicles. It generates 130 kW (177 hp) of power and has a maximum torque of 1,050 Newton metres.
The electric motor has already been implemented in urban hybrid buses. When installed in plug-in hybrid trucks, it works in parallel with an in-line five-cylinder engine that runs on hydro treated vegetable oil (HVO) or diesel. The electric motor can regeneratively charge the battery pack during braking or downhill coasting.
