In this paper, the developed blood vessel image system based on Near-Infrared(NIR) technique was used to compare the blood vessel width (BVW) and blood vessel fractal (BVF) of extremities of the diabetes mellitus to the normal subjects. Preliminary results showed the blood vessel widths of finger of the control group were larger than the ones of the experimental group, especially the index fingers and ring fingers (p<0.05), and the second toe(p<0.05). In addition, the fractal dimension of blood vessels of the diabetics were also larger than the normal subjects without statistical significance (p=0.2). However, it might indicate the configurations of blood vessels of diabetics were less regular than those of the normal subjects. These quantitative parameters are potentially useful in the long-term monitoring of diabetic.
