The Climatology of the Itcz Based on Outgoing Longwave Radiation

The outgoing longwave radiation data derived from the NOAA polar orbiting satellites during the period from June 1974 to May 1984 have been used to construct the climatic charts of the ITCZ on the whole globe. The monthly variation of the ITCZ over different parts of the tropical continents and oceans is inspected separately. It is interesting to note that the location of the double ITCZ over the Pacific Ocean has a pronounced zonal oscillations. The major factors of annual oscillation of the ITCZ over different areas are also discussed.
