Abstract
Non Performing Loans (NPLs) have become a hot issue after the global financial crisis that started in 2008, currently under discussion in many fora and institutional instances, as far as they are considered to be an important factor jeopardizing the lending capacity of European banks. In this chapter a definition of NPLs is provided, as long as a brief synopsis of the overall structure of the handbook and of its learning objects, starting from the technical analysis of the potential solutions to NPLs management and work out and of their main pros and cons to be considered.
