Abstract

A life-cycle analysis makes an accurate comparison of the resources (fuel, land, water, and environment) of various electricity-generation options. The present paper examines nuclear power generation and its effects of producing and transporting fuel, building and subsequently decommissioning facilities, generating power, and treating and disposing of waste. For ease of understanding, these diverse impacts are translated into rupees to identify the least-cost resource strategy. The cost of power generation from nuclear power plant is estimated by calculating the levelized unit energy costs and carrying out an economic analysis via life-cycle cost assessment.
