A flexible, simple robotic proboscis has been developed based upon the differential extension of 3 extendable tubes. Pneumatic pressure is used to create the tube extension and control is achieved via a micro computer and analogue proportional control valves. Motion and flexibility is very organic and although power/weight ratio is high, absolute payload and stiffness are low.
