In this section we review some definitions from digital topology and geometry mostly following Rosenfeld [129] and Kong and Rosenfeld [82] . Unless explicitly stated otherwise, we consider Z2 as the set of points with integer coordinates in the plane ℝ.2, and similarly Z3 as the set of points with integer coordinates in space IR3 As usual we assume that all sets are subsets of a digital planeZ2 or a digital spaceZ3 with some adjacency (neighborhood) relations which are defined below.
