The state’s population increased by 1.4 million people from 2000 to 2005, and is projected to increase to 44.3 million by 2025. This 1.2 percent projected annual growth rate is above the national average of 1.0 percent. In 2005 California had a per capita personal income of $36,890, which was $2,395 above the national average and the twelfth highest in the country. The state’s per capita income grew at an average annual rate of 2.6 percent from 2000 to 2005, compared to 2.9 percent nationally.
