Mahle has now joined the Hydrogen Council, an initiative which advocates hydrogen. The supplier is also intensifying its work in fuel cell systems and hydrogen combustion engines.

Mahle, a series supplier for fuel cell vehicles, has joined the Hydrogen Council. The worldwide initiative of leading energy, transport, and industrial companies promotes hydrogen as a core component in the transition to cleaner energies. "Hydrogen is a cornerstone of CO2-neutral mobility, particularly with regard to road transport," says Dr Jörg Stratmann, CEO and Chairman of the Mahle Management Board. The company also announced that it intends to expand its application portfolio for hydrogen.
In addition to developing fuel cells and components for commercial vehicles and passenger cars, Mahle is also focussing on hydrogen as a fuel for combustion engines and for stationary applications such as energy supply. Mahle believes that the hydrogen initiative announced by the German government and the EU is a step in the right direction. Stratmann adds, however, that "there is still a lot to be done to industrialise fuel cell technology consistently and to complement the highly efficient combustion engine with regenerative fuels, which is important in terms of climate and industrial policy".
