Abstract
Chapter 7 examines this improvement in China’s military force and the US reaction to this evidenced by the strengthening of regional military agreements. It then moves on to an examination of possible scenarios for the near future. These include: the Japanification model (internal and external factors lead to long-term stagnation); the integration model (China successfully integrates—this may lead to regional dominance or even a G2 condominium); and, finally, the possibility of challenging US supremacy and the implications this would have for the global economic and political order.
