Image Quality Assessment-Based Approach to Estimate the Age of Pencil Sketch

Abstract

In recent years, the increasing interest in the evaluation of biometric systems security has led to the creation of numerous and very diverse initiatives focused on this major field of research. After the occurrence of crime a skilled pencil sketch artist draws the sketches based on the description of the eyewitness. The accuracy of the skill depends on the description given by the eyewitness and the skill of the artist. After the sketch is drawn finding its age is a challenging task. In this paper we apply image quality assessment (IQA) to find the age of a pencil sketch drawn by a skilled pencil sketch artist. The database considered FGNET pencil sketch database that consists of 34 pencil sketches varying from 6 to 61 years. The IQA parameters considered are peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), maximum difference (MD), average departure (AD), normalized absolute error (NAE), total edge difference (TED), structural similarity index (SSI), and mean square error (MSE). The significance of this analysis is given a pencil sketch that we can quickly and effectively calculate its age and hence help the law enforcement agency to apprehend the criminals in a very short time interval.
