Abstract

IoT networking, the main focus of this book, is key to enable the successful communication between devices and applications. However, because of device constraints and power as well as signal propagation limitations, this communication is not always efficient when carried out by means of traditional networking technologies. Specifically, in the context of IoT, the communication between devices and applications is the result of a number of technologies that have been adapted to overcome the limitations that affect devices and networks in IoT. To this end, this chapter introduces IoT and sets the tone for a broader discussion on IoT communication and networking technologies and protocols.
