Introduction

This book is about a process and an idea. The process is socio-economic emergence. The idea is globalization. We agree with Rugman (2002)1 that globalization the fact is hard to find. However, we would suggest that globalization the process is well in train. We present it as an emergent property of the next step in the evolution of the socio-economic processes driving our planet’s development – an emergent global business system empowered by the knowledge industries. Our contribution is to present emergence from the analytical perspective of a new triad of business systems.
