For readers under the age of thirty, it may be difficult for them to understand how fast the modern fashion industry has developed over the past twenty years, without undertaking a great deal of research. The change and loss of fashion retailers and businesses is probably faster than in any other business sector. The fickleness of fashion has had much to do with these changes. However, fundamental improvements in manufacturing quality and design, combined with the development of cheaper international manufacturing sources, have also been important drivers. The offer of width, depth, type and price level of fashion ranges has never been greater, and there appears no reason for consumers not to want this situation to continue. The modern consumer has been weaned on continuous change and increasingly wider offers for at least two generations.
