Über dieses Buch

This book offers a concise yet comprehensive introduction to supply chain resilience, covering management, modeling and technology perspectives. Designed to accompany the textbook “Global Supply Chain and Operations Management” it addresses the topics of supply chain risks and resilience in more depth, describing the major features of supply chain resilience and explaining methodologies to mitigate supply chain disruptions and recover. Numerous practical examples and short case studies are provided to illustrate theoretical concepts. Without relying heavily on mathematical derivations, the book explains major concepts and methods to build and improve supply chain resilience and tackle supply chain disruption risks in a simple, uniform format to make it easy to understand for students and professionals with both management and engineering backgrounds. Graduate/PhD students and supply chain professionals alike will benefit from the structured, didactically oriented and concise presentation of the concepts, principles and methods of supply chain resilience management, modeling, and technological implementation.

Frontmatter
1. Supply Chain Risks, Disruptions, and Ripple Effect
Abstract
This chapter is devoted to risk management in the supply chain. The chapter starts with fundamental definitions of uncertainty and risks. Subsequently, disruption risk classifications are presented. Decisions in the scope of supply chain disruption risk management are discussed. The special focus is directed toward disruption risks and the ripple effect in supply chains. The concepts of disruption overlays and disruption tails are explained. Finally, pandemics as a specific type of supply chain disruptions (i.e., a super disruption) are considered using the example of the coronavirus (COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2) outbreak.

2. Managing Supply Chain Resilience
Abstract
This chapter is devoted to the management of resilience in supply chains. The chapter starts with fundamental definitions of resilience and related concepts. It then explains the strategic importance of resilience and its capabilities that firms should build to recover after disruptions. Subsequently, the chapter offers insights into practical ways of resolving trade-offs between resilience and efficiency. Finally, the chapter discusses supply chain resilience issues in the context of a super-disruption, i.e., COVID-19 pandemic.
Dmitry Ivanov
3. Modeling Supply Chain Resilience
Abstract
This chapter is devoted to supply chain resilience modeling. The chapter starts with the classification of the existing modeling methods and explanation of their applications and managerial insights. Subsequently, this chapter introduces some modeling examples and presents some optimization and simulation techniques to identify the impacts of disruptions on supply chain performance (i.e., to answer the question “what happened?”) and explain them (i.e., to answer the question “why it happened?”). Moreover, the chapter also considers supply chain optimization to answer the question “how to recover?”
Dmitry Ivanov
4. Measuring Supply Chain Resilience
Abstract
This chapter is devoted to supply chain resilience assessment. In this chapter, we will learn how to assess and quantify supply chain resilience using different techniques of network theory, e.g., Bayesian networks and entropy. We also explain how to quantify supply chain exposure to the ripple effect.
Dmitry Ivanov
5. Supply Chain Viability
Abstract
This chapter presents supply chain viability as an overarched resilience perspective. First, we explain system-theoretic view of supply chain resilience which is important for further understanding of supply chain viability in the open system context. We then present the supply chain viability framework and explain the notions of intertwined supply networks and the viable supply chain model.
Dmitry Ivanov
6. Correction to: Measuring Supply Chain Resilience
Abstract
The original version of the chapter was inadvertently published with an error. The chapter has now been corrected.
