The aim of the modelling approach to the data of the Fladen Ground Experiment (FLEX ‘76) is to contribute to the understanding of the dynamics of the spring phytoplankton bloom in relation to the formation of the seasonal thermocline in the northern North Sea. The simulation model synthesizes hypotheses about the functioning of several important processes with respect to their effect on the phytoplankton dynamics.
