Digital Natives und Digital Immigrants

Entwicklung eines Modells digitaler Gewandtheit

Zusammenfassung

Der Beitrag befasst sich mit den Unterschieden zwischen „Digital Natives“ und „Digital Immigrants“. Als Digital Natives bezeichnet man die neue Generation junger Leute, die in das digitale Zeitalter hineingeboren wurden, wohingegen Digital Immigrants diejenigen sind, die den Gebrauch von Computern in einer Phase des Erwachsenenalters erlernt haben. Während man davon ausgeht, dass Digital Natives inhärent technologieaffin sind, wird bezüglich der Digital Immigrants angenommen, dass sie gewisse Schwierigkeiten mit der Informationstechnologie haben.
Im Beitrag wird empfohlen, anstelle einer harten Dichotomie zwischen Digital Natives und Digital Immigrants besser ein Kontinuum zu unterstellen, das am besten als „digitale Gewandtheit“ zu verstehen ist. Digitale Gewandtheit ist die Fähigkeit, Wissen zu transformieren und Informationen zu generieren, um sich in einer digitalen Umwelt kreativ und angemessen auszudrücken. Die Autoren schlagen ein vorläufiges konzeptionelles Modell der digitalen Gewandtheit vor, welches Faktoren mit einem direkten und indirekten Einfluss auf digitale Gewandtheit enthält, nämlich demografische Eigenschaften, organisatorische Faktoren, psychologische Faktoren, sozialer Einfluss, Zugangsmöglichkeiten, Verhaltenseinstellung und tatsächliche Nutzung digitaler Technologien.
