The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is the United States Government’s primary vehicle for nationwide reduction in damages due to flooding and for financial recovery by the victims of flooding. The purpose of this paper is to describe the components of the NFIP, how they are integrated with one another, and the specific challenges associated with maximizing their effectiveness.
