1. Toward Open Business Innovation Leadership
Abstract
In the last three decades, the transformation processes experienced by industrialized countries radically changed the international economic and social structure. A relatively new approach to interpret and frame the meaning of these changes is provided by the neo-Schumpeterian analysis. This field of the economic literature investigates the dynamic processes of qualitative transformation of economies that are driven by the introduction of various forms of innovations. In particular, the neo-Schumpeterian view assumes the centrality of large technological innovations in determining the dynamics of economic and social systems, and offers tools for understanding long-term fluctuations (Dosi et al., 1988).
Alessandro Margherita, Francesca Grippa
2. The Emergence of a New Managerial Mindset
Abstract
The last two centuries have been marked by many significant paradigm shifts, related to changes in concepts and their interpretations.
Aldo Romano, Marco De Maggio, Pasquale Del Vecchio
3. Networked Learning for Human Capital Development
Abstract
In Chapter 1 we moved from major transformations in economy and business to raise the need for a new framework, the Open Business Innovation Leadership that should inform the practice of management at a threefold level: (a) the need to develop a new mindset that incorporates the changing competitive paradigms, strategic levers and drivers of success; (b) the need for a new perspective about human capital development in terms of people, learning processes and strategic purpose; and (c) the centrality to develop social capital and stakeholder value by adopting an integrated organizational learning and innovation model. From this perspective, Chapter 2 has investigated the emergence of a competitive mindset suitable for the new scenery; whereas this chapter focuses on the centrality of intangible resources, and in particular on human resources, in leading organizations that create value.

4. Fostering Innovation by Nurturing Value-Creating Communities
Abstract
In a rapidly changing environment, the success of any firm depends increasingly on the ability to continuously reinvent the sources of value creation, adapting rapidly to change to reach a continuous flow of competitive advantage (Teece, 2007; Brown and Eisenhardt, 1998). This ability is based on the organization’s capacity to continuously learn from past experience and to be willing to unlearn and experiment with new ways of solving problems.
Francesca Grippa, Attilio Di Giovanni, Giuseppina Passiante
5. The Emergence of the Stakeholder University
Abstract
In the previous chapters we moved from major transformations in the economic and business scene (Chapter 1) to address the need for a new managerial mindset (Chapter 2), to offer a different perspective on human capital development in companies behaving as universities (Chapter 3), and to posit new organizational models to drive innovation (Chapter 4).
