Abstract

The future generation of communication networks will be full of seamless mobility management while keeping the Internet services on top. So far many mobility management protocols have been proposed and deployed. For example, regional registration notion has been proposed in dynamic hierarchical mobile IP (DHMIP) and hierarchical mobile IPv4 (HMIPv4). But these schemes do not consider the past mobility pattern of the mobile users (MUs). There is scope of reduction in regional registration cost if past mobility pattern of the MU is taken into account. Many MUs follow fixed mobility pattern on daily basis in urban cities. We have considered the fixed mobility pattern of such MUs and proposed a hierarchical mobility anchoring point and secondary mobility anchoring point for fixed mobility pattern MUs. The proposed scheme has reduced location management cost as compared to DHMIP and HMIPv4 schemes.
