For a long time now, manufacturers of diesel engines have been investing huge resources in developing methods to prevent emissions. And much has been achieved - both on- and off-road. From 2019, Deutz's off-highway drives will be subject to EU Stage V legislation for mobile machinery. Compared to 1999, this will reduce NO_X emissions by 95.7 % and particulate emissions by 97.9 %. Added to that, a numerical limit of 1×1012 particles/kWh must not be exceeded. This will be possible by employing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) combined with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The challenge here lies in operating the systems safely. Practical experience and detailed knowledge both of applications and their load profiles are needed so that exhaust-gas temperature and urea injection can be precisely controlled. Only then customers will have a robust drive system which keeps to the prescribed limits.
