Abstract

Based on the perspective of market segmentation, this paper empirically tests the impact mechanism of market segmentation on energy efficiency by using China’s provincial panel data from 2005 to 2016. The results show that market segmentation has a significant inhibitory effect on energy efficiency by distorting technological progress, scale efficiency, and allocation efficiency. The conclusion of this paper not only provides an important theoretical basis for promoting the reform of China’s economic system, but also brings some enlightenment for other developing countries to choose ways to improve energy efficiency.
