Operation Efficiency Study on a New Cooperative VR Whiteboard System

Abstract

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, remote collaboration becomes widely needed. To this end, this research proposes a VR whiteboard system that facilitates multiple participants collaborate remotely using natural handwriting. Moreover, a controlled experiment is conducted to compare the operation efficiency of the VR whiteboard with two other whiteboards, including the physical whiteboard and electronic whiteboard. It shows that the VR whiteboard improves collaboration efficiency significantly compared to the mouse-based electronic whiteboard and even compatible with the traditional whiteboard.
