Kia will offer its Sorento SUV in the fourth model generation either with hybrid drive or diesel engine. The powertrain of the Sorento Hybrid combines a 1.6-l direct injection turbo gasoline engine with a 44.2-kW electric motor and a 1.49-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The overall system delivers 169 kW of power and 350 Nm of maximum torque. The internal combustion engine is now equipped with Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) valve control technology, which adjusts the valve opening to the prevailing driving conditions. Power is transmitted via a six-speed automatic transmission with an electric motor integrated into the transmission housing. The Sorento is also available with a new 2.2-l diesel engine that delivers up to 148 kW and provides a maximum torque of 440 Nm. A new eight-stage dual-clutch transmission with wet clutch is to offer the comfort of an automatic torque converter, while at the same time offering higher fuel efficiency.
