Radar meteorology has been in a process of intensive development since the 1940s. The first textbook in this specialty, Radar Meteorology by Louis J. Battan (1959), achieved worldwide recognition for this new field. Battan’s effort pushed radar meteorology forward not only in the United States but also in China. His book was translated into Chinese by Yin-Mo Zhuang in 1965 and was the unique reference book on radar meteorology for Chinese meteorologists for many years.
