7. Redesigning Data Protection

As societies are accelerating into a connected future, they discuss human competition for intelligence with artificial intelligence systems. In order to approach real informational self-determination for those individuals, however, a high level of information is indispensable also without AI systems. Only a broad pool of connected information available leads to the best-informed consumers. To enable such an availability of information a multiple layer model for data protection is suggested here. The bottom layer of such a possible model consists of a machine-readable data protection declaration. As a second layer, the first visible-to-the-user layer builds up on the machine-readable base layer. It is the full declaration on compliance with data protection law. The third consists of a one-pager. If the content of a page is already too much for the reader, the reader can go back—or better: step up—to a fourth level, an iconized level. And the good is, it doesn’t acquire too much redesigning of the current data protection regulations in Europe.
