Andy Lock and Tom Strong trace philosopher of social construction back to the work of the eighteenth-century Italian political philosopher, rhetorician, historian, and jurist, Giambattista Vico. The criterion for truth would later shape the history of civilization in Vico’s opus, the Scienza Nuova (The New Science, La ScienzaNuova 1725), because he would argue that civil life—like mathematics—is wholly constructed. Vico accepted a tutoring position in Vatolla (a little village near to Perdifumo), south of Salerno, which would last for 9 years. In 1699, he became a chairmanof rhetoric at the University of Naples. Source: Wikipedia.
