Zusammenfassung

Stadtökologie untersucht die Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Stadt und Umwelt. Nach einem Überblick über zentrale Fragestellungen werden drei grundlegende Forschungsrichtungen der Stadtökologie skizziert: die Ökologie in der Stadt ,die Stadt, die Ökologie der Stadt und die Angewandte Stadtökologie unter dem Leitbild der nachhaltigen Entwicklung. Anschließend werden aktuelle Herausforderungen und Forschungsthemen der Stadtökologie diskutiert wie der globale Wandel, Verstädterungs- und Schrumpfungsprozesse, urbane Ökosystem(dienst)leistungen und die potenziellen Folgen des Klimawandels für europäische Städte, darunter dessen Auswirkungen auf die urbane Biodiversität. Abschließend werden Entwicklungsperspektiven der Stadtökologie aufgezeigt.
