The influence on the luminescence properties of Sr1.95−xEu0.05MgxSi5N8 with different Sr/Mg ratios

Abstract

A series of Sr1.95−xEu0.05MgxSi5N8:Eu2+ nitride phosphors were synthesized by gas-pressed sintering method. X-ray diffraction with Rietveld refinements, photoluminescence spectra, thermal quenching behavior, and lifetimes were utilized to characterize samples. The influence of incorporating Mg2+ into Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ phosphors on the crystal structure and luminescence properties were discussed in detail. At a certain concentration, doping Mg2+ can greatly enhance the PL intensity of Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ phosphors. The red phosphor Sr1.95−xEu0.05MgxSi5N8:Eu2+ exhibited a small thermal quenching, which remained 75% of the initial emission intensity when measured at 150 °C. All the results indicate that the Sr1.95−xEu0.05MgxSi5N8:Eu2+ can be an excellent candidate of phosphor applicable to n-UV LEDs for solid-state lighting.
