Chapters 1 and 2 are concerned with the roles of buyers, garment technologists and merchandisers, and the industry context in which they operate. For the purposes of this book we are concerned with the issues relating specifically to buyers, merchandisers and garment technologists of fashion clothing and accessories: it is important for the reader to understand that fashion retailing has many unique aspects that are quite different from general retailing.
