Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is focused on the verification on the theoretical basis of the fuzzy approach. It seems necessary to explain the rationality of appropriateness in using this mathematical tool for exploring the implicit nature of objective events, especially for those non-structured problems. Starting from the theoretical basis of uncertain events and fuzziness of the objective world, uncertainties are classified and its fuzzy reasoning will be discussed with an algorithmic rule; furthermore, the special techniques concerning fuzzy reasoning such as interval analysis, α-cut representation of membership function and vertex method were studied. In order to guide the practical application of the techniques, several examples of fuzzy membership functions have been presented in detail.
