Abstract
Deploying traditional networks is a necessary and relevant step before attempting to do the same with IoT architectures. This chapter introduces Netualizer and Wireshark as tools that can be used to build and analyze protocol stacks that support traditional networking. First, Ethernet is used to support physical and link layers that enable generic upper layers that are built on top. This includes network, transport, and application layer protocols that are intentionally subjected to network impairments in order to emulate real-life networking scenarios. In addition, these traditional stacks can be used in the context of IoT and media transmission applications where quality scores play an important role. Alternatively, security can be enforced by relying on transport-specific encryption and authentication mechanisms.
