Application of Diffusive Saturation with Boron Together with Aluminum for Hardening of Die Tooling Made of 5KhNM Steel

Abstract

The possibility of surface hardening of die tooling with boron together with aluminum is considered. Using the methods of metallographic and X-ray microanalysis, it was found that the boroaluminized layer has several structural zones, mainly consisting of Fe2B crystals, which are located in the viscous aluminide part of the layer, and the wear resistance of boron aluminized steel is 15 times higher compared to heat-treated steel with a hardness of 54 HRC. Industrial tests have shown that the durability of boroaluminized die tooling increased by 1.5 times.
