Tesla has unveiled its new model: the electric Model Y SUV is the smaller companion to the pre-existing Model X and will be available on the market as four different variants. The launch is planned for 2021.

The new Model Y will be offered as a base model with a smaller battery, as well as in Long Range, Dual Motor AWD and Performance options. The Model Y is a seven-seater concept based on the Model 3.
Tesla announced that the electric powertrain will enable acceleration of 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, as well as offering a top speed of up to 240 km/h in the dual-motor Performance model. The base model offers a range of 370 kilometres, whilst the Long Range model boasts a range of 483 kilometres on a single charge. According to the manufacturer, WLTP figures showed the Dual Motor AWD model has a range of 540 kilometres. The Supercharger charging stations will provide 270 kilometres worth of charge in just 15 minutes.

Similar to the Model 3, users can access the vehicle using their smartphones. The car's interior also has many features in common with the Model 3, such as the panoramic glass roof and 15 inch touchscreen console. However, the third row of foldable seats makes the Model Y a seven-seater. When not in use, the additional row of seats can be folded away. The AutoPilot driver assistance system option is available at an additional cost.
The first Model Y variants are expected to be rolled out to European customers in 2021. The first available models will be the more expensive, advanced models starting from 55,000 euros for the Long Range version. The Dual Motor AWD model starts at 59,000 euros, whilst the Performance model costs a minimum of 67,000 euros. Production of the cheaper, standard model is set for 2022 with a market price of just under 40,000 USD.
