Zwischen 1944 und 1951 schufen die Vereinigten Staaten gemeinsam mit anderen fortgeschrittenen industriellen Demokratien eine Nachkriegsordnung mit umfangreichen neuen Sicherheits- und Wirtschaftsinstitutionen, in denen die USA eine führende Rolle spielten. Die zentrale Rolle der USA in dieser institutionellen Ordnung ist nicht nur ein Ausdruck, sondern auch eine Quelle für ihre Vormachtstellung. In diesem Kapitel soll diese Beziehung reflektiert werden. Im Besonderen wird ein genauer Blick auf die Rolle der USA innerhalb der UN, NATO, IWF und WTO vorgenommen.
