Effect of Impurities on the Properties of Brass L63 and Preventive Control of Commercial Batches of Continuously Annealed Ribbon at the Kirov Plant for Processing Nonferrous Metals

Abstract

The effect of the content of Cu, Pb, Fe, Sn and Si on the properties of 445 commercial batches of brass ribbon subjected to continuous annealing to a soft condition is studied. The active system of control of the composition and properties of processed batches is updated, and a regression dependence of the properties of the ribbon on the content of lead, iron, tin and silicon impurities in it is determined. Numerous sets of initial data are used to obtain different models describing the dependence of the properties of the ribbon on the chemical composition. The effect of the Si impurity on the properties is shown to be dominant. Recommendations are given for organization of preventive control of the composition of the alloy (the content of Si) in the foundry stage and selection of ingots meeting the condition Si ≤ 0.05% for the production.
