In Choice, Rules, and Collective Action, Filippo Sabetti and Paul Dragos Aligica move beyond the better-known empirical work of the Ostroms, and instead present the theoretical lenses employed by both Vincent and Elinor throughout their careers. The book explores their life-long research program which critically engaged and questioned many of the mainstream assumptions in economics and political science. Readers of this journal will be particularly interested in this book as it investigates the Ostroms’ early connection to public choice, and how this connection shaped their own unique approach and research agenda. This book does not discuss many of the empirical findings or conclusions found in Ostroms’ work, but it highlights the distinctive method of inquiry of the Bloomington School. …
