The chapter presents the land-use model
ProLand
and the fuzzy expert system
UPAL
.
ProLand
models the regional distribution of agricultural land-use systems whilst
UPAL
predicts the species richness of vascular plants. Linking land-use and ecological models allows us to assess socioeconomic and ecological effects of policy measures by identifying interactions and estimating potential trade-offs. The effects of the Common Agricultural Policy reform on land use, key economic figures, and plant species richness are modelled for a study area in Hesse, Germany. Results indicate that the reform positively influences ground rent and species richness.
