Introduction to FUR XV special issue

This special issue is in conjunction with the Foundations and Applications of Utility, Risk and Decision Theory (FUR XV) Conference held during June 30–July 3, 2012, at Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA, USA. The FUR conferences have a venerable tradition begun with the 1982 Oslo conference organized by Maurice Allais and Ole Hagen. Subsequent FUR conferences were held in Venice (1984), Aix-en-Provence (1986), Budapest (1988), Duke (1990), Paris (1992), Oslo (1994), Mons (1997), Marrakech (1999), Torino (2001), Paris (2004), Rome (2006), Barcelona (2008), and Newcastle (2010). The FUR conferences have consistently attracted top researchers from economics, finance, risk management, psychology, and judgment and decision-making. They have had a fine tradition of theoretical rigor and empirical applications informed by, and informative to, theoretical modeling. Since all four of the organizers come from an experimental background, we especially stressed the scientific connection between theory and data at FUR XV. …
