Many studies have shown that weak intercalated layers have a significant impact on the stability of a stratified rock mass. The stability of a rock slope that contains an inclined layer of weakness has been discussed by Terzaghi (1962), Jaeger (1971), Goodman (1976), Okubo et al. (1993), and Hatzor and Levin (1997). In addition, case studies performed on cut slopes in Jordan showed that slide movements always occurred on weak layers (Al-Homoud and Tubeileh 1998). …
