Abstract

hydrogels were synthesized by free radical polymerization of Acrylic acid (AAc) and 3-sulfopropyl acrylate potassium salt (KSPA) in aqueous solution using N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker and ammonium persulfate (APS) as initiator. This were designated as copolymer KSPAC. Water swelling studies of copolymer hydrogels with different mol and initiater percent were performed. The hydrogel showing the highest swelling percent in water has been modified using Acrloyl GuarGum (AGG). hydrogel with three different weight percent of AGG were synthesized, designated as AGGKSPAC1,2,3 respectively. AGGKSPAC2 was found to show much higher ES% than the AGGKSPAC1 & AGGKSPAC3. These hydrogels have been employed as carriers and in vitro releasing materials for Gentamicin drug. Drug loaded and unloaded hydrogels were characterized from FTIR, 13C NMR, DTA, TGA SEM, XRD BET. At different pH the absorption and release of drugs were studied.
